Be a Cannibal
Sheila, Jeff and Jeremy. 1985.
My oldest son came home from a youth activity and said their theme for the month was Being a Cannibal. I thought that was an odd theme for a church-related youth group. I asked a few questions.
Turned out my son had learned about being dependable and taking responsibilities for his actions. He’d learned that choices have consequences and about being accountable for his actions. Then he asked me, “What’s a cannibal anyway?”
Kids learn interesting things in church. My youngest daughter learned about Joseph in Egypt, when there were seven years of plenty followed by, as she said, “seven years of salmon.”
And it’s not just things they learn in church. That same day, my older daughter told me about her friend’s parents driving a brand-new A&W.
Perhaps, if we’re prudent and prepare during times of plenty, we too can enjoy years of salmon and A&W, and not have to resort to being a cannibal.
